Welcome

Hey there - thanks for stopping by! I am Cap10NRG (as in Captain Energy) I have been making electronic music since the late 80's, and I've been a musician basically all of my life. Currently I am an artist, illustrator, a musician, composer, producer, developer, teacher and sound designer (that's a lot of hats i know). This keeps me pretty busy - and though I don't use all of these skills in my regular job, I do use them all the time and the reason I started my YouTube Channel was to try to share my skills, knowledge, and obsession with making music, gear, and being creative with the world. I try to do that in every video whether I am just giving you a quick tip, showing a new piece of gear or software, or just doing a Q&A Live Stream.

I hope you will join me as I answer questions, demonstrate new gear and software, and generally show you how to make music and some tools you'll use to make it!

Where did I get the name "Cap10NRG"?

Interestingly enough,I did not choose the name "Cap10NRG" initially. In 1995, I started DJing and was looking for a cool / catchy name. I have friends that were DJs and they had names that lent themselves to names like "Charlie K." or "Matty O". Anyway I could not just create a name, it had to make sense... Well one day I was walking through the apartment, and my roommate Charlie K. was on the phone. I was walking around talking a mile a minute and went into the kitchen and sneezed. (I was extremely energetic - loud and always excited about something), when I sneezed it made the glass dome on our living room light "RING". At that point Charlie starts laughing on the phone and tells the person on the other end about the ringing light, and that he is just sitting here talking on the phone and hanging out with Captain Energy... I was like WHAT?! What did you just say?! - excitedly -- He said I just said I'm hanging out with Captain Energy - that's you! I loved it - I wanted to get the email IMMEDIATELY. But when I called the internet provider (mind you it is 1995, the internet was not even close to what it is today) to get this email address - they said it was limited to 8 characters... So after thinking for a couple minutes I thought - what if I wrote it like a license plate --- CAP-10(TEN)-NRG(Energy)?! And that was it Cap10NRG was born!

Digital Audio Workstation Info(DAW)

There are so many great DAWs out there to pick from. I have been doing this since the time there were only a few that were available - it was back in the 90s where I discovered Cubase by Steinberg / Yamaha on my PC and it has been one of my favorite DAWs since, and not just because it's been around... I have seen Cubase continue to get better every release, and with each version come industry leading capabilities that, in many ways, set the pace for their competitors.

Another DAW that I use and have done many tutorials on is Reason from Reason Studios (formerly Propellerhead). This application is on that I will pretty much always love because it works the way I used to do things - with devices and cables. Only thing is you never run out of devices, or cables. You can package up the devies into combinators and make custom interfaces for them. I just love this application!

And then finally we get down to the mobile apps I use and demo. My primary mobile app I use on my iPad all the time is Korg Gaget! Other than that I of course use Cubasis to stay within the world of Steinberg, and I absolutely LOVE Koala sampler. I will of course pivot here as applications keep changing and becoming better on mobile but for now (and for quite a while before now) these are my primary apps.
